Jason Peck Announces Candidacy for KS State House of Representatives District 24

Overland Park, KS- Jason Peck has accepted the Libertarian Party's nomination to run for Kansas House of Representatives, 24th district. A Kansas City native and lifelong proponent of less government and more personal responsibility, Peck believes he can best represent the people of the 24th district. Mr. Peck has a long history of community service, and has chosen this campaign as his portal into the world of politics.

Candidate Bio
Jason Peck, originally from Kansas City, MO, has lived most of his life in Kansas. Jason Graduated Shawnee Mission North HS in 1989 and later received a B.S. in Computer Science from the American College of Computer and Information Systems in Birmingham, AL.

Jason served 6 years in the Kansas Army National Guard as a heavy anti-armor weapons crewman and received an honorable discharge on 28 March 1995. He has also served as a volunteer firefighter / EMT for the Cutler Township Fire Department in Franklin County, KS for 5 years. While on the department, he held the position of secretary treasurer for 3 of those years. Additional volunteer service includes the Kansas JayCees, Ottawa chapter (4 years), the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (8 years). Jason helped to establish one of the first volunteer youth programs at the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center in early 1996.
Political Stance

Currently Jason works as a Senior Programmer / Analyst for Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, (Alice Scott, her daughter Sarah Padilla, his son Kenneth and his daughter Krystal). He is a motorcycle enthusiast,  a lifelong competitive shooter, hunter, fisherman, and enjoys all types of outdoor activities.

Jason plans on focusing on the following priorities during the upcoming campaign.
  • Continue efforts to pass a constitutional amendment preventing eminent domain abuse. Jason strongly supports HB 5025, a firm resolution to protect private property owners' rights.
  • Introducing legislation to allow Kansas to opt out of "No Child Left Behind" and regain control of its public schools.
  • Introducing legislation to eliminate the sales tax on food products. This is a regressive tax on the poor and elderly, and the income tax rebate intended to offset the tax is ineffective.

Why vote for Jason

Many people today feel politically homeless. They often feel left out of the political process because they do not believe that there is anyone out there who will speak for the mainstream values that the majority of us hold dear. Today it seems that the political spectrum consists only of a choice between extremes, both of which are represented by special interests and single-issue agendas. As a proud Libertarian, I hope to change that.

There is simply no reason why we as free thinking citizens should have to choose between the political left or right. The left often supports our civil liberties, but denies us our fiscal liberties. The right, on the other hand, wishes to "grant" us financial freedom, but at the same time tramples our civil rights. In short, Democrats claim to know what's best for you, Republicans claim to know what's best for you, but I believe only YOU know what's best for you.

Sovereignty begins with the individual and is licensed to the state, not the other way around. We should not have to live in fear of having our property confiscated, our civil rights ignored, and our paychecks taxed into oblivion. It's time we as individuals took responsibility for our own lives and stopped asking an ineffective, bankrupt system to do things for us that it cannot do for itself. If you agree with these values, I respectfully ask for your vote in November 2006!
